Hey everyone! I know it's been sometime since my last entry so I thought I'd make another post seeing as how SOOOO much has happened since my last entry here. Besides taking time to be involved with my college campus and doing homework, etc. I have been trying to keep up on the game pretty regularly. Things have gotten interesting.

As of right now, the Banlist for March 2013 has been released just about 24 days ago and I was happy to see Blackwings acquire some of their support back in the form of Kalut at 3 again and I've even began the testing of triple Kalut in my deck that I've been testing for a few weeks now. More on that in another article, but let's just say it's giving me a lot of expectation for Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy support of the Winged-Beast archetype.

We've seen Genex Mermail evolve into Mono Mermail for the time being thanks to Billy Brake and Jeff Jones who immortalized it at YCS Miami a few weeks ago. Fire Fist, however, hasn't been talked about too positively and for reasons that I generally can acknowledge and understand, at least until we receive Chicken, who makes plays absolutely broken due to spamming. Another aspect we don't have to the deck is Sirius the Blue Dog Star. Not only one of my anticipated Synchros as of late, it allows the deck to run Deck Devastation Virus more efficiently and therefore able to counter decks like Prophecy and Mermails more easily. Speaking of Prophecy, the deck has been seeing a successful turn of events lately in regionals and the YCS circuit, partly because of the lack of Wind-Ups that are around (due to the limiting and banning of Magician and Zenmaity respectively), but also because of the anticipated Spellbook Judgment Day in Tachyon Galaxy. Needless to say, Tachyon Galaxy is going to change the game state as we know it, but that might be an opportunity for another article. Fire Kings have also been released, but are not see critical success. This can be mostly attributed to the lack of Yaksha int he TCG. However, the deck has a powerful card in Garunix as it can counter the majority of strategies by blowing them up! Literally! It might be more lucrative to run at the local level so keep an eye out for it!

We also got Number 61: Volcosaurus and Starliege Palydynamo in the 2013 ZEXAL Collection Tins, as well as a ton of Galaxy/Photon Support, courtesy of Kite. We also received Freezerdon, but well... he's kind of booty... so let's not talk about him right now. Volcasaurus himself added an arsenal to Hieratic decks, allowing your friend and mine, Paul Cooper, to top 32 YCS Miami with the deck shortly before it needed to change for the banlist (as it ran 3 One Day of Peace before the card was limited). The deck has seen a lot of success in Paul's hands and it's great to see one of my favorite Dragon decks finally have recognition! Volcasaurus also fits well in Inzektors and Wind-Ups when paired with Gaia Dragon the Thunder Charger. Use the effect of #61, deal the damage, ovelay your Gaia Charger and attack for game: a formula for success! That in itself is a combo that may deserve to be hindered by the upcoming banlist in September if it sees popularity and success...

Other news has spread beyond Tachyon Galaxy to Judgment of the Light, the set AFTER Tachyon Galaxy. The set is said to have new Synchro Monsters, stronger than ever before! Searching the set on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki is a great way to check out the confirmed cards in the set, including the new Level 6 Synchro that will hopefully revive the decks that lost Brionac to the ban hammer. We also have, for the first time, a Level 11 Synchro in Starform Dragon that is god-awful when summoned and nearly impossible to shut down once it hits the field. Compulsory might be a huge card to tech into decks again once it comes out! This makes me excited to run Plants at the local level again!

And currently at YCS Austin we have quite the interesting culmination in the top 32 decks of the day... Electrum OTK
Karakuri x2
Heroes
Geargia x2
Monarchs
Mermails x16
Fire Fist x5
Dino Rabbit x3
Wind Up x1 (courtesy of ARG and Cordero Vexacus 4666 Spencer)

While at least half of the top 32 are Mermail, other decks such as Geargia and Monarchs, not to mention HEROs and ELectrum OTK of all things!, are all topping as well. The format itself is evolving into an interesting variety, seeing decks that haven't topped in a long time beginning to make an appearance again.

All in all the way the last month has changed the game significantly and I'm anxious to discuss more things very soon in new articles that'll be coming up sooner rather than later! Sooner is always good news right? Until then folks, I'll catch you later.
